This
book describes the political, cultural and economic issues surrounding the
current nature of higher education and the role in the community it plays on a
macroeconomic and microeconomic scale. This book was extremely helpful by gathering
the socioeconomic issues that restrict underprivileged college students from succeeding.
(4) Author(s). Give some information on the author(s). What makes him/her knowledgeable on the
topic?
David
M. Callejo Perez and Joshua Ode were editors of this book. I cannot find a
direct author besides the company they work for named Sense Publishers. David
M. Callejo Perez is an Associate Provost at Saginaw Valley State University. He
is the author or co-author of books on civil rights, urban schools and higher
education, as well over a 100 peer-reviewed academic papers He is a member of
several National and Regional Advisory Boards and journals in the field of
education. He is a very successful author devoted to his studies making him a
very reliable and trusting source.

Stewardship-
is an ethic that embodies the responsible planning and management of resources.
The concepts can be applied to the environment and nature, economics, health,
property, information, theology, etc.
Fundamentalism-
A form of a religion, especially Islam or Protestant Christianity that upholds
belief in the strict, literal Interpretation of scripture.

This
reading shows the disadvantages that poor youth face especially nowadays. With
rising tuitions and many financial and social limitations, this book demonstrates
the role that colleges play in recruiting poor ambitious students that need the
extra attention and guidance in order to enroll and successfully graduate
higher education.
